Several weeks ago I had the privilege of attending Haven—a conference for diy and home design bloggers—in Charleston, South Carolina. I was there to teach a workshop class for two amazing sponsors, Dremel and Gorilla Glue, and to hang out with some of my besties from this amazing community.
The weekend kicked off with some prepwork for the class and a fantastic dinner with the teams from Dremel and Gorilla Glue. Throughout the evening, I got to hear more about the heart and soul behind these companies. You guys… sometimes there are just companies we work with as bloggers that speak to the heart of what drives us all as makers. I know how passionate I feel when I talk about my work here at Build Basic, and it was so inspiring to hear those same sentiments echoed from the brands and people who design, create, and work with products at each of both Dremel and Gorilla Glue.
Hearing more about Dremel’s quest to make the Stylo+ their most compact tool so you can hold it just like a pen and use it for longer periods of time without fatigue (or more comfortably with smaller hands), and the intense testing behind Gorilla Glue’s adhesives to make, for example, their hot glue sticks 5X more durable than the competition. For me, as an individual, it made me so proud to be chosen to represent them in a class with other makers and, hopefully, convey why we are all so excited about using our creative minds and the tools and materials that help our visions come to life.

Throughout the weekend, I watched hundreds of attendees come through the booth to try out the tools. The creativity in the space was incredible.
On Saturday, it was finally time for our workshop class. I stood nervously outside the door, hoping people would attend. Luckily, the seats filled up until the room was overflowing, and it was time for the class to begin!
After my quick presentation I shared the video I’m sharing with you here today to walk everyone through the project. Next everyone split up into groups to cut their picture frame pieces Dremel SawMax and to start engraving their signs with the Dremel Stylo+. Some attendees followed our etched patterns while others created their own. The energy and creativity in the room was amazing, and I was so thankful to be a part of it.
