What’s my secret weapon when it comes to getting the perfect gold finish? You might be surprised to know it’s NOT a spray paint…it’s actually an oil-based product called American Accents that’s made by Rust-oleum. I prefer the Gold Metallic color in a satin finish. Why do I prefer it? It’s fast drying, has a nice flow that hides brush strokes, and dries with a sheen, not a fake, yellow “shine”. And if I touch it up with a bit of dark stain on a rag, it looks like a fairly realistic brass finish. I know what you’re thinking, and no, this is not a sponsored post…I’ve just had really great results with this product and wanted to share! So what’s your go-to choice for a flawless gold finish? Leave it in comment below!

    Nice, I like the look.
I have a couple of items that will look really nice with this coating.
    This.

Isn’t there a risk of ‘dulling’ the shiny gold when applying the dark stain? I thought about ‘dry brushing’ the stain also. Anyone have any insight?

      Hi Tom,
Yes, the dark stain on the rag did dull the finish a bit, but I somewhat liked the “mottled” look. I’m glad you mentioned the dry brush method. I really liked the look of that too, though I made the mistake of laying it on too thick on my first pass and was left with a smudge when I tried to go back over it. Good thing it was a test piece! I’d love to hear how yours comes out!
